Photography Awards 2014
The Iris Awards are the National Professional Photography Awards held by the NZIPP (New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography) each year. It had been a personal goal of mine since seeing the awarded images displayed in Christchurch in 2012, to enter images in the awards sometime. A pipe dream at the time I thought. In 2014 I decided I would give it a go, wishing, but with no expectation of taking home any awarded images.
Last August, I flew to Rotorua for the judging, and nervously listened to all the images being judged in the various categories. It was an opportunity to learn so much about what was working and not working in other entered images for the panel of highly qualified judges.
Heart in throat every time one of my images came up for judging, I hadn’t felt this way for such a long time.
However, the experience was definitely all worthwhile, I learnt so much, and came away with a super stoked glow about my self and where my work was sitting in the field of professional photography.
All up 2 bronze awards, 3 silver awards and 1 Silver distinction award.
Hoping I get the time to enter a few more in 2015. Loved the buzz, the tension of having your work critiqued in front of other professionals, and the super supportive environment.
