Backdrops project

Beautifully hand painted

In the school holidays I was busy creating painted backdrops for beautiful portrait Photography sessions. Learning on the job with materials and techniques. The lounge was my creative room and my backdrop drying room. It was so cold outside that powered heating was my only option for drying these sheets of canvas 2.5metres by approx 3metres. The garage and outside are not options for this big softy. Mid winter in Christchurch and it was freezing by our standards.

I’ve used the backdrops in these images by inspiring New Zealand Photographer Sue Bryce as inspiration for tonal shifts and colour ranges.

Here’s some images I took as trials to test the backdrop out. These images are taken with studio lighting. This cutie as my subject is about 1 metre from the backdrop. Looking at creating some more with grey tones for darker feel images.
